Our Story
Lucky Bat started with two mates — graphic designer Danny Crichton and visual artist Justin Schmidt — who spent their weekends building a 4-tonne masonry woodfired oven as a creative project. In 2016, they found the perfect home next to the Nightcliff library, and that oven became the heart of a Darwin institution that now includes Bat Bakery (with a CBD outpost on Knuckey Street) and a craft brewing partnership.
Step inside and you’ll find recycled school chairs from local institutions, Moorish-inspired ceramics, a 20-foot shipping container bakehouse, rotating local art on the walls, and an isobar weather mural at the entrance — all set around a tropical courtyard garden. Our Middle Eastern-inspired menu, live music programme, and community spirit have made Lucky Bat the place where neighbours become friends, where everyone from tradies to tourists feels at home, and where the dogs are welcome too.

Everything you need to know before visiting Lucky Bat.
We’re at 3/7 Pavonia Place, Nightcliff NT 0810 — right in the heart of the Nightcliff shops precinct, an easy walk from the Nightcliff foreshore.
Tuesday to Saturday 7 am – 4 pm, Sunday 7 am – 2 pm. Closed Monday. We also have extended hours for Pizza Fridays, Thursday Feast Night, and Sunday Bat Sessions — check our socials for the latest.
We’re a relaxed walk-in venue — no bookings needed. For larger groups, functions, or catering, email catering@luckybat.space or call 0490 815 510.
Absolutely. We offer gluten-free pizza bases and have plenty of vegan and vegetarian options across our menu. Just ask our staff — they’re happy to help.

Bat Bakery is our on-site bakery producing fresh sourdough, pastries, and baked goods daily. It’s part of the Lucky Bat family, right here in our Nightcliff home.
Nightcliff Brewing Co is our craft brewery operating on-site at Lucky Bat. We brew a rotating selection of beers that you can enjoy fresh on tap with your pizza.
Very much so. We’re a community cafe at heart — kids are always welcome. Our outdoor garden area is great for families, and we have a kid-friendly menu too.
